What are allergy drops?
Allergy drops, also called sublingual immunotherapy or SLIT are a daily liquid treatment placed under your tongue that helps your body become less sensitive to allergens over time.
How this works – you take a few drops under your tongue each day, and your body is slowly exposed to small, controlled amounts of your allergen, over time, your body’s immune response calms down and this leads to fewer symptoms.
This is the same concept of allergy shots, without having to go into an office every week. Allergy drops are a simple, convenient, and long-term solution to help you feel better, not just temporarily, but season after season.
Who can be tested for allergies with Elev8?
Any patient aged 5 years and older with suspected environmental allergies (pollen, dust, pet dander, mold) can be tested. Elev8 uses blood-based IgE testing, which is safe for most patients regardless of current medications or health status.
Are allergy drops effective?
Yes, allergy drops (sublingual immunotherapy or SLIT) are clinically proven to be effective for many people with environmental allergies. Unlike medications that only mask symptoms, allergy drops work by retraining your immune system to become less sensitive to allergens over time. This means you are treating the root cause, not just managing the symptoms.
How long does it take to work?
Early improvement: Some patients notice benefits within 4 weeks. Most patients notice decreased symptoms within 3-6 months.
How do patients take sublingual immunotherapy drops?
Place the prescribed number of drops under the tongue (sublingual area). Hold for 2 minutes without swallowing. After 2 minutes, swallow normally. Do not eat or drink for 3 minutes before or after taking drops. It is suggested to take the drops before getting into the shower in the morning.
